wine & beer

This Season we are keeping our wine list short and sweet.  We are luckily surronded by amazing Vineyards, hopefully you will visit one or two and bring back a beauty to have in your hideaway.  The two wines we have chosen this season are made by Quealey wine. We love her style and think that both wines really showcase the wine produced on the Peninsula.  The Cups Estate Cuvee One is our favorite Peninsula bubbles and it's just around the corner from Big Blue Backyard - enjoy a taps style lunch there on weekends.

The Cups Estate ‘Cups Cuvee’ - $48.00

The wine displays lifted aromas of strawberries, red currants and spun sugar.

Quealy Pobblebonk 2011 - $35.00

is the field blend of Balnarring Vineyard, a white super blend combining the aromatics of Riesling and Moscato Giallo with Friulano, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay.

Rageous  - $35.00

A deep, brooding, smokey and charred-cherry scented nose laced with some liquorice. Gives the impression of being a big-bodied wine.

Mornington Pale - $6.50 per beer

Made at our very own local brewery – located in Morningtonl.

All soft drinks in your hideaway mini bar fridge are complimentary.

By Richard Arnold

I stayed at The Big Blue Back Yard in St Andrews Beach, a boutique B&B with three individually-designed private cottages right by the beach. Larger resorts have their place but also a routine and all too often I’ve found you become a hostage to the experience.

Not so here; the B&B offers the best kip and tucker in the region. The fridge in the room has space enough to store a magnum and the cracked heel balm in the bathroom was a fragrant touch for the weary traveller.

With a twinkle in her eye, my South African hostess said she’d only be too happy to apply it at the risk of embarrassing me.

There's a reason The Big Blue Backyard is on Paradise Drive. I would head back there in a heartbeat.

Cheers! Richard enjoys a glass of wine
